Abs Diet

Review Summary
The Abs Diet was created by the editor in chief of the magazine Men’s Health. David Zinczenko detailed this program in a book he wrote, and it is now also available online via the official Abs Diet website. This diet and exercise plan is said to dramatically improve the body. The creator promises fast results and states that people who follow this diet should be able to achieve a flat and firm stomach.

  Concept
The Abs Diet is a 6 week program that promotes sensible eating and regular exercise. It is said to not be a fad diet, but the real thing and a diet that could produce real results. The basis of this plan is centered around what Zinczenko calls Power Foods.

  Qualities
This diet has 12 specific Power Foods, which consist of dairy products, berries, green vegetables and whole grains. These 12 foods, and why there were chosen, are detailed in the book, but the author states that if people base their daily meals on these 12 foods then the weight will start to come off naturally.

Thus, there is no calorie counting or food restrictions in this diet. In fact, people are allowed to eat any food they wish, but they are suggested to stick to a guideline that the author has created. Within this guideline, foods are put into three different groups: eat often, eat occasionally and eat rarely. Again, the 12 Power Foods are their own group and are strongly suggested to be incorporated into each meal.

  Price
Again, this program may be accessed through the book Zinczenko published or through the official website. Online membership to the Abs Diet program appears to cost around $15 a month at this time, which is usually the case unless there is a promotion going on. Currently, people are being offered the first 30 days for free. The Abs Diet website also sells a copy of the book for 4 payments of $7.99.

  Final Facts
Many dieters may have already heard about the Abs Diet since it received a fair amount of press when it first hit the market and is a widely used program. The diet is meant to simplify dieting and allow people to make easy food choices that are best for the health and are believed to promote a flat tummy.

Tina: I’m on day 9 of the Abs Diet, and am not really sure if I’m following this correctly. I like eating six meals a day, but the portions are HUGE! Do I have to eat that much for it to work, because, I swear I’m gonna gain weight if i keep eating this way. Are there modifications..??

LaVerne: It seems to me that maybe some of you are not really giving the Abs Diet a chance; to succeed you cannot give up. The plan is simple, but that doesn’t make it simple to follow. If you really want success you must work for it; the Abs Diet will transform your fat into muscle if you stick with it, and it is one that will help you for life. Read the book and take advantage of the online tools, you’ll see that it works.

April Dennison: How come they don’t say its just for men then, I was wondering why the portions were so large but I didn’t think that meant it was only for men. Is there an Abs Diet for women around or anything that works better?

veronica: Saw the Abs Diet on Good Morning America, & i went right online and bought it. It seemed maybe like a different approach to getting rid of that stubborn belly fat. But when i got the book, it did seem to me to be very similar to a lot of the other diet books i had read in the past. This was confusing to me. I also am wondering about the calorie counts for these menus. Does anyone else think the calorie counts seem a bit high? I’m just a tad worried that i will gain weight…

Danielle: The Abs Diet worked pretty okay for me not hat I would recommend it for everyone here. I gained weight this past year, my first out of college working in the “real world.” I had never been fat in all my life and when I showed up for family vacation my mother laughed at how chubby I was. She gave me a copy of the book the Abs and I am following the instructions and back to being very careful with every bite and walking again instead of cabbing around town. Thank goodness I lose the 15 pounds and now hopefully I can lost another 10 to be really thin again.

Madison: I think the Abs Diet just takes longer than you think. It says over and over in the ads that 2 weeks is the time you need to show some good results, so maybe for some of us it takes a little longer? That’s what I’m thinking, ’cause I like the exercises and I like the foods that are listed as the 12 power foods…what’s not to like about this except that it’s slower than I’d like,,,must keep trying!

Martin: The diet was not bad, it was a sorta turning point for me I guess. I bought the Abs Diet book last year and began focusing more on my overall health. I joined a gym too, so I did more than just what they tell you in this book but I was able to stick with it for the 6 weeks, and then I began working out harder, trying all the different machines at the gym, doing more sit-ups, etc. I’ve been feeling good. this was a good way to start.

Sarita: Despite what everyone else is writing about the Abs Diet, I like it! I like it that I can eat foods that I like, and that I’m not hungry, at all, on this plan. And I think my stomach muscles are starting to look better, too. I even thought I saw a rib this morning when I was getting dressed! Now if that’s happening, then I’m really sold! I haven’t seen any ribs or hip bones for a very long time…something good is going on!

jane: i don’t know, I think the Abs Diet might be OK. I’m keeping up with the exercises fairly well, i think. And i LIKE having a diet that lets you eat a normal amount of calories for once! I will report back here on my results. so far it’s too soon to tell – Jane

Anna: This is a sensible diet book filled with many familiar diet essentials. It’s not groundbreaking or anything – it doesn’t reinvent the wheel – but it’s got good solid advice, I think.

Daria: I’m not ready to give up on the Abs Diet just yet. I know some of the information is kind of old, and that maybe the “better body, better sex, better life” is a tad overdone, but I swear, I think I’m starting to see some results, even though I’m not sure it’s coming from the diet…it could be that it’s just that I’m eating more vegetables, and not my usual MickeyD’s breakfasts…whatever it is, the Abs Diet seems to have me on a better track…

gwendoline: has anybody tried one of those ab training belts? curious, i was thinking about trying one.

Geneva: I’ve been on the Abs Diet for about 3 weeks, and am thinking it’s starting to do something…but, I have to admit I’m cheating just a teensy bit…I thought the food portions were just nuts, so decided that if I added a little hoodia to the mix, I might lose weight quicker…so, less food, lots of exercise…it’s working pretty good, the only trouble is, I don’t know which one’s giving me the results…

Maggie: I love it that I can do this diet without being hungry. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the portions are about to kill me, and yeah, I’m not hungry, but I’m also not losing any weight, in fact I think I may have added some, which is definitely not good. So I’m going to cut the portions myself to something that’s bearable, and keep going with the rest of it. It’s a sensible exercise program, and I think if I just weren’t eating so much it would probably work.

rita: My husband has this book and it works for him if he follows it. This program is not for me. I don’t eat meat. No chicken on a regular basis. This is for men. I love to go running, watch what i eat and go to the gym. If this works for you, more power to you!

Adrien: Ok, so the ab’s diet is not just some fucken miracle. It’s a life style! You stick to it, and when you hit the work outs you’re not just burning off the fat but you’re creating muscle like never before. I have the book, and no it’s not a book for everyone. It’s more of a book for dedicated athletes with a dedicated diet. Not for people just looking to shred off your fat leave that to the easy way out. Such as those supplement diets or what not. And stick to something else if your especially not wanting to gain muscle. Because thats what this program is all about. Losing and fat, and gaining muscle. In fact I already have an eight pack from this system, but then again thats because I read the damn book. So pick it up and read everything in it, and expect great results.

Paula: I agree with Adrien, mostly. It’s too bad this post is so far down the page. Anyone who doesn’t have the “stick-to-it-ty” to stay with this diet, surely will have decided to burn the book before they get this far down the page. I am not a dedicated athelete, and I have A LOT of weight to lose, but I love this diet. I have lost 20 pounds so far. No, I am not seeing any ab definition. There is still too much fat covering them. I can feel the difference in them. I agree, READ the book, DO the exercises, it can work. Like any good “diet” it is a lifestyle change. Not just a quick fix that will lead to putting twice as much back on. Change comes slowly. As for the whining about lack of protein, eggs? beans? lean meats? dairy? nuts? Hello, people! All power foods, all good sources of protein!

Nina: Love the diet (the food part) of the Abs Diet and reading the book really made me aware of all the bad choices i was making before. I feel a lot healthier. I am more of a moderate athlete, not “dedicated” and these exercises are good but really, a little difficult for someone who can find excuses to get out of anything. I blame myself but, thank god for technology! I ordered the Flex Belt, it came 2 weeks ago and it works out my abs like nothing else. Btwn this and the diet I should be a size 4 by Thanksgiving!

Nikitana: I have used the abs diet since 2005. It’s a very well balance diet between carbs and protein, low in the glysemic index, also easier to follow than most diets for one reason it tells you what to eat 24/7 aside of the time required to learn how to prepare every meal which becomes easier over time. Like any diet it takes time to adjust to it. I choosed to freeze my meals to adjust to my lyfestyle. Once you have been on it for two weeks it becomes easy to follow. It teaches your body and mind to eat all over again, cuts out the salt and sweet cravings as well. The part I love the most is anti inflamatory, it also helps with reduction of water retention. I also followed the diet with a dvd power90 which has the same excersice routine in the book, I lost 20 lbs in 30 days and not the six weeks like the book says. If you are really commited on loosing weight this is the best real diet ever. Meals are actually tasty and you will never go hungry again.

Ken: Okay people. True story short and simple. Total cholesterol 266, 10 weeks of ABS diet 117. Now thats results. 42 pounds thinner. I combine the ABS Diet with Tony Horton’s P-90 exercise video. Not to be confused with his P-90X video.

Abusabus: is it so obvious a lot of these comments are fake because you want us to buy nupehdrine… If you go onto amazon you will see real people who have succeeded with this diet and some who actually failed

HMILK: HEY GUYS poster “ABUSABUS” MUST BE REAL!!! BUY ABSDIET ABS DIETABS DIETABS DIETABS DIETABS NO REALLY, dont the abs diet sucks!

Kayla: Despite what many people are writing on here I lost a good amount of weight on this diet. This is not a “fast” diet it is more of a lifestyle change, eating healthy…what a concept. It is just silly to think that 6 weeks is going to make all of your excess body fat go away in the blink of an eye. Let’s be realistic here. Anybody who does a diet just so they can magically be skinny and toned isn’t doing it for the right reasons and is obviously going to give up. If you want results so quickly you might want to try liposuction.

jimr: I just started the Abs Diet, so can’t say yet what the results are after 6 weeks. But I’m determined to stick with it, so will give you an update. But some observations after reading these comments: Sounds like many of you aren’t reading the book. Vegetarian? Huh? Not even close! You can eat turkey, chicken or beef every day if you want. You just have to be smart about it. Also, many of the recipes they give you make more than one serving. Remember, one meal is one serving. I will say this diet does seem geared more toward men than women. Men tend to put weight on around the midsection, so that’s where most of it will come off of. If you can’t fit exercise in your schedule, don’t bother with this diet. It’s a very important part of the plan. Keep in mind that some of the claims, like having six-pack abs or better sex, are mostly designed to motivate you. As with most things, a lot depends on how much you put into it. After one week, I’ve been following the plan pretty faithfully, and also exercising every day. I feel better and have already lost a few pounds. It’s not for everyone, but I chose this diet because it is sensible, realistic and based on sound principles.

emily: First of all, most of the posts I’ve read are people complaining that they didn’t drop 50 lbs in 6 weeks. Second, I thought this was common sense, but you have to burn more calories than you consume in a day to lose weight. So if you’re following the program and expecting miracle results, are you paying attention to your calories burned??? Also, THERE IS an abs diet regimen for women. I’ve been following it for 4 weeks, along with my already present working out (running 5 miles a day and lifting weights). People stop me left and right to ask what’s different. I’ve gone from… oh, 121 pounds to 120! but the weight is not so much fat now as it muscle. So you can’t rely solely on a scale to measure your success!! You also can’t expect miracles if you aren’t supplementing your diet with working out. You can’t be lazy and expect a quick fix if you’re significantly overweight. Be realistic.

dave t: Ok here we go Feb 2, 2009. I am starting the abs diet tommorow, I am 5′10″ 209 lbs. In six weeks I would like to be 190 lbs. I think that is a fair goal between what the diet says it delivers and my real expectations. It looks like a simple program to stay on but that does not mean it will be easy. Wish me luck and I will report back on March 16th. Please wish this 43 year old luck!

Jerome: If you seriously commit to circuit training, and putting in the cardio, you will get amazing muscle growth. This is not a cute eating plan for skinny people to loose 3 lbs off their back side. Think more collegiate athlete; you can turn your body into a fat shredding machine, or you can stick to buns of steel, and slim-quick.

Keytra: dave t. I have started yet but will…i do believe this will work as with any lifestyle change to this capacity…i agree with emily. your muscle and fat weigh differently and you cant expect miracles…besides..did you get the abs diet for women…? the green book? when you couple the right foods with the right amount of cardio and rest…consistently – i dont think it matters what plan you’re on…you will get results at your own pace…not all ‘plans’ work for everyone. so bless each of you for seeking something to change your health :-)

Sue: Do i have to buy to book to do the Abs diet? can anyone tell me what I need to do on this diet? thanks.

Dena: I few things that I keep reading: There is not enough protein. I don’t understand this, because if you actually follow the program you are getting 100-150 grams a day, depending on whether you are male or female. Also if your READ the books, the recipes are full sized (for men). The book recommends smaller portions of the same recipes for women. There is a huge variety of food that you can eat. There are very few foods that you can NOT eat. Once a week you eat whatever you want (within reason), so nothing is ever completely off limits. Although the book says that you will lose a huge amount in 6 weeks. I am finding that I lose about 1-2 lbs a week. This is considered healthy weight loss. If you need to learn how to prepare meals that are healthy and how to choose pre-packaged meals that are healthy. This book will help you. It is definitely not for people who want a quick fix. Quick fixes are usually what got you to where you are in the first place. This is a lifestyle to keep you healthy for the rest of your life.

izzy: oh so its not likely to lose a huge amount in 6 weeks on the abs diet then? i want to be healthy but i was hoping to use this for getting in shape by spring break, enough to feel good in a bikini. is there something i can do to make it faster for me??

Jeff: Wow, I am suprised by all these negative comments. The abs diet really worked for me. It took me a while to become a better shopper, but I am now at my perfect weight. I have been on this diet for over a year.

Melissa & Andy: Adriene hit the nail on the head. This book works! My husband and I have been strictly following the book for 2wks and I’ve lost 10 pounds and my husband 13 pounds. As for the comment on there being no protein, there is plenty of protein (nuts, beans, whey powder, and most of the recipes call for lean meat. For this to work you have to throw or give away all the junk food you don’t need to have and replace it with what the book tells you to have. Make a big grocery list and go get it. Your going to have to spend some money but its worth it. The recipes in this book are really good if you take the time to make them. The money you save on not eating out makes spending more money on good food balance out.READ it, Follow it, and you will reap the benefits. There is also a women’s book, which has smaller portions. It also has chapters on after baby fat and menopause.

adrian ereeder: hey I dont understand you people. This diet is not a diet its a way of living. this is so simple to follow. you eat six times a day. dont make your portions huge. you can enjoy fruits and veggies, diary products and alot of other things. I have lost 5 pounds and I havent pick up a weight or did any excercise. if you read the book you will see that you burn most of your calories from the thermic effect of eating and your metabolism. all you people that said this book idnt work. RE-READ THE DAMN THING. ps for the woman he has a abs diet book for woman. you people are so cruel. If you dont stick with it how can you say it doesnt work. you people make me sick. the abs diet rules. thank you abs diet

anthony: I have read the whole book at least twice and skim through it for tips almost daily. I am on week 6 of following the abs diet plan as best as I can. I have deviated from the plan several times through the weeks. It allows one cheat meal per week. I have had an average of 5 a week, which is much better than how I ate before trying the abs diet. When I stick to the plan, I feel great. When I decide to eat unhealthy, I have extreme energy crashes. So far I have lost about 10 pounds and hope to stick to this lifestyle for the rest of my life. I am certain I will reach my weight and fitness goals in about two to three more months. 6 weeks is not the magic number for everyone. I am highly confident that my abs will be showing in 12-15 weeks, rather than 6. The point is that if people give it a chance, the results will come with patience and dedication!

travis: I’m sure it may not work for everyone, but I tried the abs diet 2 years ago for about 3 1/2 months and lost 47lbs. All of the credit goes to the diet because I hate to exercise and did no weight training whatsoever during that time. I was very dedicated to eating only from the 12 power foods for every meal, however I did cheat by drinking beer almost on a daily basis. Like most people, I have a busy work schedule so the diet does take extra planning and dedication, but with effort it can be done and becomes easier over time.

angie: Abs Diet 3 weeks in. Lost no “weight” by my less than 10 lbs over “ideal” weight..body is morphing. My butt, thighs, stomach.. all taking on a new shape. Count calories girls! This diet was designed for men. Don’t use the abs diet online. Calories are wayyy too high. Great way of living. I dont’ see me giving it up at 6 weeks, just make your own meal plans and you can load up on protein!!
